GoFundMe Takes Action Against Multiple False Damar Hamlin Fundraisers

The Buffalo Bills' safety, Damar Hamlin, suffered a cardiac arrest during Monday night's game against the Cincinnati Bengals. In the aftermath, many people have shown their support for Hamlin by making donations. Unfortunately, GoFundMe has had to remove numerous fake fundraisers claiming to be for Hamlin.

A fundraising campaign on GoFundMe has been created in honor of Hamlin, and it has already raised over $3 million. However, according to TMZ, there have been instances of individuals attempting to profit off of Hamlin's misfortune by creating fraudulent GoFundMe campaigns.

It should be noted that GoFundMe is taking steps to remove any fake campaigns that have been brought to their attention. A spokesperson for the platform confirmed that there is only one verified fundraiser on the site that has been approved by Damar's family: The Chasing M's Foundation Community Toy Drive.

According to reports, any unauthorized fundraising campaigns are being promptly removed by GoFundMe. Some of the fake campaigns have claimed to be raising money for Hamlin's hospital expenses, while others have duplicated the toy drive fundraiser set up by his family.

It is fortunate that the fake campaigns did not gain significant traction. In fact, one campaign was specifically created to warn others about scams related to Damar.

Damar Hamlin's heart stopped again while he was in the hospital and he is currently struggling to survive. Our thoughts and prayers are with him during this difficult time.
