According to BoxingScene.com, Golovkin was previously ordered to face mandatory challenger Esquiva Falcao. At present, Falcao and Australia's Michael Zerafa are ranked as the top two contenders for the vacant title. However, he was granted permission to fight outside of the middleweight division in September 17, where he challenged Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. Alvarez won the fight, making it 2-0-1 in their three-fight series. The IBF mandatory with Falcao was to be enforced, but it remains unclear if those plans will continue now that the IBF mandatory will no longer take place. Photo: Instagram/Gennadiy Golovkin  According to Mike Coppinger of ESPN, IBF/WBA middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin  has "zero interest" in fighting Jaime Munguia, who has targeted him as one of his top opponents for 2023. Munguia, who is unbeaten with a record of 41-0, 33 KOs, is looking to have a breakout year and has also named Jermall Charlo and Dmitry Bivol as potential opponents. However, it is unlikely that Munguia will be able to secure fights with any of the three, as Golovkin has not revealed his plans for 2023 and Charlo has not fought in almost two years.
