Photo: Klay Thompson (Instagram) Klay Thompson recently shared how playing with the Golden State Warriors differs from what he expects with his new team, the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavericks made a big move this offseason by trading for Thompson to boost their lineup. After falling short in the NBA Finals, Dallas brought in Thompson to add more versatility to their offense. At the Mavericks' media day, Thompson talked about playing alongside star player Luka Doncic . He explained how the Mavericks’ offensive style will be different from what he was used to with the Warriors. "In Golden State, it was more about movement and passing. Here, Luka is amazing in the pick and roll, maybe the best I’ve ever seen," Thompson said. "I’ll get a lot of open shots because Luka draws so much attention from defenders." Klay Thompson Chooses Mavericks Over Lakers Despite Bigger Offer

Photo: Instagram/Klay Thompson Despite a generous offer from the Lakers, Klay Thompson decided to join the Dallas Mavericks. LeBron James personally pitched to him and was willing to take a pay cut, while Lakers GM Rob Pelinka offered Thompson a four-year, $80 million deal. This was double the Warriors' offer of two years, $40 million. Thompson chose a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks instead. Money wasn't his top priority. Having earned $268.7 million in his 13-year career, plus endorsements, Thompson was looking for other benefits. The Mavericks offered a chance to contend again. They played in the Finals last June and needed more shooting, which Thompson could provide. The Lakers, although competitive, were a play-in team with an aging LeBron and a rookie coach.
