The moment was supposed to happen outside a courthouse in Gotham City before one of Arthur Fleck's (played by Joaquin Phoenix ) court appearances. Gaga's character, Lee, had been released from Arkham State Hospital and was there to support Arthur. As she walked up the courthouse steps, she kissed a woman in the crowd of protestors.
