At the time, Ball was 18 and playing basketball for UCLA. During an interview on Unapologetically Angel with Angel Reese , Ball admitted to making a bad decision. "I knew it was wrong," he said. "I was in the wrong spot at the wrong time, making dumb choices." Ball and two UCLA teammates, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill, were arrested in Hangzhou. They were accused of stealing while on a team trip. Ball said he realized immediately he had made a mistake. "Right when I left the store, I knew it was over," he recalled.
