Hawks' Trae Young On The Hot Seat As Atlanta Fires Coach Nate McMillan

The Atlanta Hawks have fired Nate McMillan and if Trae Young does not alter his game, he could be the next to go.

While the Hawks had a roster that included Dejounte Murray, they have been one of the most disappointing teams in the league for almost two years.

The offense is often one-dimensional, old-school and outdated, with the team taking and making fewer three-pointers than most teams in the league.

Young is the team’s best player and there is a belief that he needs to change his game for the next coach who comes in.

Young's continued disinterest in being an active off-ball participant is an issue.

The hope is that a new coach will be able to open Young's mind to a different way and maximize the Hawks offensively.

If Young doesn't change, and the next coach produces the same results, it is unclear what the next step would be.

The team wants it to work with Young and firing McMillan is the first step.

But, it is unclear if Young has the humility required to run away from the ball and be a team player, which is a rare trait in such exceedingly talented players.

The Hawks were rolled out of the first round by Miami last season because Young was forced to give up the ball and then didn't serve as anything other than a statue once he did so.

Young must start thinking and playing more collectively, and although there are no guarantees, it might be impossible to win at the highest level without it.

Even if Young were to buy in, there is no guarantee that wins will follow.

The Hawks do have capable players who are good at passing and screening, but a system that relies on random movement needs other pieces.
