Brittney Griner Gets Emotional As She Speaks Out On Detainment, Transgender Rights, And Women's Sports

Brittney Griner, a member of the Phoenix Mercury, broke down in tears during her first press conference since returning to the United States after her detainment in a Russian penal colony.

Griner spoke on various topics, including her gratitude for the US, the issues of excluding transgender people from women's sports and her release from Russia.

During her press conference, a reporter asked the opening question and began crying, causing Griner to cry as well.

Griner thanked the media for the exposure that ultimately played a role in her release and encouraged them to cover the WNBA in the same fashion.

She then thanked the Mercury and President Joe Biden and VP Kamala Harris, among others.

Griner expressed her support for trans women and said she would speak up against legislation and laws that threaten their right to play.

Griner revealed that she would not play abroad again, except to represent the US at the Olympics, and expressed her hope for the WNBA's growth to reduce the pay gap.

Griner was assigned to a Mordovian penal colony in Russia and detained for ten months before being released in a polarizing exchange.

Finally, Griner offered advice to those in situations similar to hers to stay strong and keep fighting.
