Trae Young Addresses Trade Rumors Before Crucial Play-In Game Against Miami Heat

On Monday night, before a crucial NBA play-in tournament game against the Miami Heat, Trae Young, the star point guard for the Atlanta Hawks, addressed recent trade rumors that have been circulating.

The Ringer had reported that the Hawks’ front office had been given permission to consider trading Young.

However, Young remained focused and said that the rumors could be true or false.

He added that rumors come out all the time, and during the TNT broadcast of the Hawks-Heat game, it was reported that Young had been told by the Hawks that the rumors were not true.

Young has been a key player for the Hawks since he was drafted fifth overall out of Oklahoma in the 2018 NBA Draft, making two All-Star Games and the 2021-22 All-NBA roster during his five years with the team. 

Despite finishing eighth in the Eastern Conference, the 2022-23 season has been somewhat tumultuous for the Hawks.

The team fired head coach Nate McMillan in February, and there have been documented rifts between McMillan and Young throughout the year. Some have questioned whether Young has the right leadership qualities for the locker room.

Young plans to stay in the moment and focus on what may or may not happen in the offseason. He said that he cannot worry about fake stories or what is true and that he will let his game do the talking.

He added that he cannot focus on things like that because it messes up his head, and he will not be ready to play.

Regardless, the 2021 playoff run by the Hawks showed that Young can shoulder the load offensively.
