Joel Embiid Challenges Himself And Teammates To Improve After Game 7 Loss To Celtics

After losing to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals for the third straight year, Philadelphia 76ers center and NBA MVP Joel Embiid has challenged himself and his teammates to improve for next season.

Embiid scored 15 points on 5-for-18 shooting in the 112-88 defeat in Game 7 on Sunday. He quoted Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo, saying that he knows what he needs to do to improve as a basketball player and that success is achieved through steps.

In addition to challenging himself, Embiid also challenged the rest of the team when discussing James Harden and his potential free agency this summer, noting that he and Harden cannot win alone because basketball is played 5-on-5.

Embiid believes that the team has what it takes to win and that they need to look at themselves individually and find ways to improve collectively. Despite the chance to close out at home in Game 7, Embiid believes that they still have a chance to win and that it will take more than just him and Harden.

The Celtics' Jayson Tatum scored a NBA postseason Game 7 record 51 points to lead Boston to the Eastern Conference Finals for the second straight year.

Embiid quoted Antetokounmpo's words after being eliminated, saying that he does not consider anything less than finishing first a success.

Embiid acknowledged that they have an unfinished job and that they need to find ways to keep improving and help the team. He stated that he plans to stay out of whatever happens with Harden's player option in his contract since it is out of his hands.

Embiid believes that basketball is a team game and that they cannot win alone, emphasizing that he and Harden cannot win alone.
