Denver Broncos Bolster Defense With Signing of Veteran DE Frank Clark

The Denver Broncos are actively making changes to their roster in the offseason, as stated by coach Sean Payton, and they have now added veteran defensive end Frank Clark to their lineup.

Multiple team sources have confirmed that Clark agreed to a one-year contract with the Broncos. The deal, reportedly worth up to $7.5 million, includes a guaranteed base salary of $5.5 million.

Clark, who will be turning 30 soon, became available after the Kansas City Chiefs released him on March 1 due to contract disputes with his agent. The Broncos have an opening on their defensive line, particularly at the edge position, with linebacker Baron Browning recovering from knee surgery and Randy Gregory dealing with injuries throughout the previous season.

Gregory, who was signed to a significant deal last year, only played in six games and recorded two sacks due to a knee injury. Payton has been vocal about the team's intention to retool their thin roster, as the Broncos have struggled to make the playoffs since their Super Bowl 50 victory.

Clark's arrival brings a proven pass-rushing threat to the Broncos. He spent four seasons with the Chiefs, appearing in 58 regular-season games and accumulating 23.5 sacks.

Notably, Clark has been highly productive in the postseason, with 10.5 sacks in 12 playoff games for the Chiefs. His standout performance came in a divisional round game against the Houston Texans in the 2019 season, where he recorded three sacks.

Overall, Clark has amassed 13.5 postseason sacks throughout his career, ranking him third all-time.
However, it's worth mentioning that Clark faced disciplinary action from the NFL during the 2022 season due to a violation of the league's personal conduct policy.

He pleaded no contest to charges of misdemeanor possession of an assault weapon and received probation and community service. Despite this incident, Clark's on-field performance and his three Pro Bowl selections make him a valuable addition to the Broncos' defense.

Throughout his career, he has registered 58.5 sacks and forced 14 fumbles. With Clark joining the team, the Broncos hope to strengthen their defensive front and improve their chances of returning to the playoffs.
