Memphis Grizzlies GM Demands Action, Not Apologies, From Ja Morant Following Gun Incidents

Memphis Grizzlies General Manager Zach Kleiman has expressed his indifference towards Ja Morant's recent apologies for his gun-related incidents, stating that Morant needs to prove his sincerity through actions.

The 23-year-old basketball player faced two suspensions from the NBA in recent months after posting images of firearms on social media.

As a consequence of his second offense in May, Morant will be suspended for 25 games at the beginning of the 2023-24 NBA season, following an initial eight-game suspension in March.

Although Morant apologized on both occasions, acknowledging that he had let down his supporters and expressing a commitment to personal growth, Kleiman dismissed the significance of these apologies unless they are accompanied by tangible change.

During the NBA Draft, Kleiman shared with The Associated Press that he believes Morant deserved the 25-game suspension, having discussed the severity of the matter with NBA Commissioner Adam Silver after the first suspension in March.

Silver, in turn, expressed his shock upon seeing the video of Morant's repeated gun display, emphasizing the potential dangers and negative influence on Morant's global fan base, particularly among young viewers.

The recent incidents involving firearms are not isolated events, as Morant has previously been involved in off-the-court issues. The Washington Post reported that he had been accused of threatening a security officer at a Memphis mall and punching a teenage boy during a pickup basketball game at his residence.

Kleiman considers these gun incidents to be part of a pattern of problematic behavior and asserts that Morant's future ultimately rests in his own hands. 

The general manager emphasizes the importance of Morant's commitment to personal growth and hopes for his success moving forward, underscoring the need for sustained positive change without any setbacks.
