NBA Referee Eric Lewis Suspended From Officiating NBA Finals Amidst Burner Twitter Account Investigation

NBA referee Eric Lewis, who is currently under investigation for allegedly using a burner Twitter account to defend himself and other officials, will not be officiating the NBA Finals matchup between the Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets.

The NBA released the list of 12 officials selected for the championship games, and Lewis was notably absent.

According to an anonymous source familiar with the situation, Lewis would have been chosen based on his previous experience and playoff grades.

The investigation is ongoing, and the league has not provided any details regarding the timeline or potential disciplinary actions. The allegations against Eric Lewis involve his suspected connection to the Twitter account @CuttliffBlair.

The account, which was briefly deactivated but then reactivated, had posted numerous responses defending Lewis and other NBA referees against criticism.

It was initially linked to Lewis on May 25 after a Twitter user discovered the Blair Cutliff account and shared screenshots. The account mainly interacted with other Twitter users discussing NBA officiating matters and follows only six other accounts, mostly related to NBA officiating.

Eric Lewis has not made any public statements regarding the allegations. However, the most recent message from the Blair Cuttliff account, dated May 25, claims that the account belongs to Lewis' older brother named Mark.

The message expresses regret for involving Eric in the situation and mentions the account will be taken down.

As a veteran NBA referee, Eric Lewis has been officiating in the league for 19 seasons, overseeing more than 1,000 regular-season games and nearly 100 playoff games.

He made his NBA Finals debut in 2019 during the series between the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors and has continued officiating in Finals games over the next three seasons.
