Boxing History In The Making: Spence And Crawford Clash For Undisputed Welterweight Crown

Errol Spence and Terence Crawford are set to make boxing history as they clash in Las Vegas for the undisputed welterweight world title, marking the first time anyone will achieve this feat in the era of four-belt boxing.

Both American fighters boast undefeated records, with Spence holding the WBC, WBA, and IBF world titles, carrying an impressive record of 28 wins and 22 knockouts. Meanwhile, Crawford, the WBO belt holder, stands at 39 wins and 30 knockouts, with ten consecutive victories by knockout, seven of which occurred in the welterweight division.

Arriving in Las Vegas, the 35-year-old Crawford expressed his determination to win the undisputed championship for the second time, following his successful venture into the welterweight division, which began with a victory over Jeff Horn in 2018. Crawford's most recent triumph against David Avanesyan further solidified his position as a dominant force in the sport, with no opponent lasting the distance against him in over six years.

Spence, on the other hand, had his own challenges to overcome, including a car crash in 2019 and a torn retina that delayed a planned bout with Manny Pacquiao. However, he made successful comebacks from both incidents, proving his resilience in the ring.

Legendary trainer Freddie Roach believes Crawford holds an edge due to his all-around skills, but Spence remains confident in his perfect record against stronger opponents and his ability to rise to any challenge. Both fighters have been vocal about their superiority over the other, with Crawford declaring himself as the best fighter in the world today and asserting that the era belongs to him.

Spence, however, maintains that he is the superior fighter physically and mentally, determined to prove it during their highly anticipated showdown. The undercard features another compelling matchup, with Nonito Donaire Jr. of the Philippines taking on Mexican Alexandro Santiago for the vacant WBC bantamweight world title.

Donaire, a former four-division world champion, is eager to bounce back from a previous knockout loss and secure the title, while Santiago acknowledges the challenge of facing a peak version of the Filipino Flash.

As anticipation builds for this historic clash between Spence and Crawford, both fighters are confident that the bout will be remembered for years to come, promising nothing short of fireworks from start to finish. Boxing fans around the world are eagerly awaiting this monumental event that has the potential to define a new era in welterweight boxing.

During the bout, Gaethje landed heavy punches and kicks that Khabib admitted were painful. “He hit like a truck,” Khabib said on Mike Tyson ’s Hotboxin' podcast. “His left hook, right hook, uppercut—they all hurt. But I made him hit me because I knew he didn’t like wrestling. My plan was to tire him out by standing with him, then take him to the ground and finish the fight.” Photo: Khabib Nurmagomedov / Instagram Khabib ended the fight with a triangle choke submission. He explained he chose the move out of respect for Gaethje’s parents, who were watching. “I didn’t want to break his arm in front of his parents,” Khabib said. “So I put him to sleep instead.
