Justin Verlander recently shared his thoughts on the New York Mets' decision to trade Max Scherzer to the Rangers.

After the trade was announced, Verlander admitted that he is now reconsidering his future with the Mets. Speaking to reporters after a win against the Nationals, the 40-year-old pitcher addressed the team's decision to offload Scherzer before the MLB trade deadline.

Verlander expressed some surprise at the departure of Scherzer, who waived his no-trade clause to join the Rangers, as well as veteran reliever David Robertson, who was traded to the rival Marlins.

He couldn't help but ponder what this means for the team's future. Scherzer was expected to be a key part of the Mets' starting rotation next season, so seeing him go had an impact on Verlander's perspective.

Similar to Scherzer, Verlander also has a no-trade clause in his contract. He mentioned that he would consider waiving it, depending on how competitive the Mets' outlook is for the 2024 season.

Verlander recently completed his 16th start of the season, boasting an ERA of 3.15 and securing his sixth win. Despite the victory, the Mets are still 6 1/2 games behind in the National League Wild Card race with a current record of 50-55.
