Joel Bitonio Voices Concerns Over Alleged 'Cheap Shots' During Browns-Eagles Joint Practices

Browns' guard Joel Bitonio expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct exhibited during the joint practice sessions between the Browns and the Eagles this week.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, Bitonio raised concerns about what he referred to as "cheap shots" from the Philadelphia team.

He highlighted that these alleged incidents occurred on both sides of the field, emphasizing the importance of protecting the quarterbacks during practice.
Bitonio, aged 31, stressed the need to avoid any unnecessary roughness or questionable plays that could potentially harm players. During one instance early in the practice, it was reported that Eagles' defensive end Josh Sweat approached Browns' quarterback Deshaun Watson and managed to knock the ball out of his hands.

Bitonio criticized this action, stating that such plays were against the rules and not in line with the spirit of the practice. Despite these incidents, Bitonio, a five-time Pro Bowler, acknowledged that tensions can naturally rise during competitive joint practices and stressed the importance of focusing on improvement rather than confrontations.

Having spent nearly a decade in the NFL, Bitonio recognized that the second day of joint practices typically tends to become a bit intense. Tuesday marked the conclusion of Cleveland's joint practice sessions with the Eagles, concluding their offseason training with shared practice sessions.

The Browns and the Eagles are scheduled to compete in a preseason game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. EST, providing an opportunity for the two teams to face off after the heated practice sessions.
