Former NBA Player Brandon Hunter, All-Time Ohio University Rebounder, Dies at 42

Former NBA player Brandon Hunter, who enjoyed a career that spanned both domestic and international basketball, has tragically passed away at the age of 42.

Hunter's basketball journey began with a standout college career at Ohio University, where he earned the distinction of being a three-time first-team All-MAC selection and cemented his legacy as the school's all-time leading rebounder. His talent caught the attention of the Boston Celtics, who drafted him in 2003.
Hunter then embarked on a two-season NBA career, playing for both the Celtics and the Orlando Magic during the 2004-05 season. Following his time in the NBA, he continued to pursue his passion for basketball by competing internationally for nearly a decade.

The Orlando Magic, the team where Hunter showcased his skills during his final NBA season, and Ohio University, his collegiate alma mater, both released statements mourning his untimely passing. Hunter's sudden demise came as a shock to his loved ones, as he collapsed while participating in one of his regular hot yoga sessions in Orlando.
Carolyn Cliett, Hunter's mother-in-law, expressed their collective disbelief, stating, "He was in good shape as far as we know. We're just shocked." This tragic loss has not only impacted his family but also the basketball community.

Ohio coach Jeff Boals fondly remembered Hunter as a phenomenal player who transitioned seamlessly from college to a successful professional career. Boals reflected on Hunter's recent visit to Ohio University for his induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame, accompanied by his son, emphasizing his role as a great ambassador for the school, a dedicated teammate, a fierce competitor, and a loving family man.

The passing of Brandon Hunter leaves behind a legacy of basketball excellence and a profound sense of loss in the sports world.
