Phillies Secure Future With Star Pitcher Aaron Nola In Record-Breaking 7-Year, $172 Million Deal

In a historic move, the Philadelphia Phillies have solidified their commitment to pitcher Aaron Nola, signing him to a seven-year contract worth a staggering $172 million. 

Nola, already hailed as one of the greatest pitchers in Phillies history, is set to continue his legacy with the team until 2030. 

Phillies president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, emphasized Nola's significance, stating, "We are committed to winning, and having an individual like him in our uniform for years to come only helps us in that regard."

The deal makes Nola the highest-paid pitcher in Phillies history. Despite Nola's up-and-down performance in the 2023 season, the Phillies recognize his invaluable contribution over the past six years, where he ranked among the top three free-agent starting pitchers on the market. 

His postseason performance, boasting a 2.35 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 23 innings, alleviated concerns surrounding his recent regular-season stats. The Phillies' rotation, anchored by Nola and Zack Wheeler, aims to be a formidable force in the 2024 season. 

With a rotation that had an MLB-best 17.7 WAR last season, the team is poised for a strong World Series contention. This significant investment in Nola doesn't mark the end of the Phillies' ambitions. 


Sources reveal their plans to pursue Japanese pitching sensation Yoshinobu Yamamoto, a two-time Pacific League MVP and three-time Sawamura Award winner. Bryce Harper is reported to have played a role in pitching to Yamamoto's camp, but fitting him into the payroll requires shedding salary elsewhere.

While the odds of a Nola-Yamamoto offseason remain uncertain, the Phillies are determined to fortify their roster, considering bullpen upgrades and potential additions to the batting lineup. As they strive for their third World Series championship, the Phillies demonstrate a commitment to reliability, with Nola standing as a beacon of consistency in their pursuit of baseball glory.
