Altercation Erupts As Pistons' Isaiah Stewart Punches Suns' Drew Eubanks Before Wednesday's Game

In Wednesday's game between the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns, Pistons center Isaiah Stewart reportedly punched Suns reserve Drew Eubanks in the face during an altercation in the back tunnels of Footprint Center, as revealed by The Athletic.

Eyewitnesses claim the two players were chest-to-chest when Stewart swung at Eubanks, connecting with his mouth. Police had to intervene to separate the two, and the cause of the conflict remains unclear.

The Suns issued a statement condemning the "unprovoked attack" on Eubanks, expressing their support for him and pledging to collaborate with law enforcement and the NBA.

The league is expected to review footage of the incident, with potential disciplinary action looming. Stewart, known for previous altercations, was suspended in 2021 for charging at LeBron James and ejected in 2023 for an incident with Patrick Beverley. 

Eubanks recounted to The Arizona Republic that Stewart stopped him in the tunnel, exchanged words, and then sucker-punched him. This incident follows Stewart's seven-game absence due to an ankle injury. 


The Pistons, struggling with an 8-45 record, had hoped for his return after the All-Star break on Feb. 22. Stewart, who signed a $64 million extension last offseason, remains a vital part of the Pistons' young core.

Meanwhile, Eubanks, in his first season with the Suns, has been contributing as a reserve, averaging 5.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 16 minutes per game, with an impressive 63.7% shooting from the field. (SOURCE: Yahoo Sports)
