Marcus Smart Ejected From Game He Wasn't Even Playing In

In a season marked by peculiar ejections, the NBA witnessed yet another anomaly as Marcus Smart found himself ejected from a game in which he wasn't even on the court. 

The incident occurred during the Memphis Grizzlies' clash against the Sacramento Kings, culminating in a 121-111 overtime defeat for Memphis.

Smart, sidelined since January due to a torn thumb tendon, was observing the game from the sideline when the unexpected ejection unfolded.

The tension escalated during a critical phase in overtime when a disputed call led to Smart engaging in a heated argument with the officials. 

Despite his non-participation, Smart's passionate outburst resulted in his ejection from the game. While such occurrences are rare, they are not unprecedented in NBA history. 

Notably, DeMarcus Cousins managed to get ejected from a game for the Golden State Warriors before making his debut with the team in 2018.


Although Smart's expulsion may have seemed inconsequential in the context of the game, it underscores the intensity and competitiveness prevalent in NBA matchups. 

Furthermore, his fervent involvement from the sidelines exemplifies a commitment to team culture and a determination to rally the Grizzlies for future success, potentially shaping their trajectory in seasons to come.
