UFC Debut Turns Sour: Fighter Bites Opponent, Gets Cut From Roster

Igor Severino made headlines for all the wrong reasons as he faced off against Andre Lima in a flyweight bout. 

The match came to an abrupt halt in the second round when Severino, in a bizarre move, bit his opponent during a clinch against the cage.

Lima, visibly in pain, alerted the referee, leading to the fight being stopped and an investigation launched. Despite the competitive nature of the bout up to that point, with both fighters exchanging blows, Severino's unconventional tactic cost him dearly.

"I felt the pain, very sharp pain. I really thought that the fence had gotten into me," Lima recounted, initially unaware of the bite. "It was back and forth, it was good for him, it was good for me, it had a lot of potential to be the 'Fight of the Night.'"

However, upon realizing he had been bitten, Lima expressed confusion and disbelief. "I don’t know what’s happening here. I really thought it was the fence," he admitted.


The aftermath of Severino's actions was swift. UFC President Dana White confirmed that Severino would be released from the promotion, marking a short-lived stint in the organization for the fighter who resorted to such unsportsmanlike conduct in his debut match.

Both fighters, making their UFC debuts, experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, but Severino's bite may have permanently tainted his career prospects in the UFC.
