Dricus Du Plessis To Israel Adesanya: ‘I’m Glad You Took Up Golf Because That’s Your Retirement Sport’

Middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis had some sharp words for Israel Adesanya at the UFC 305 press conference in Perth, Australia. 

Adesanya, who recently picked up golf during his break from fighting, was told by du Plessis that he might be spending more time on the golf course after their upcoming match.

The two fighters are set to face off on August 17 at RAC Arena. Adesanya, a two-time middleweight champion, is returning to the octagon for the first time since losing his title to Sean Strickland at UFC 293 in September.

Despite the tension, du Plessis remained calm. “For me, there’s no tension from me,” he said. “I get into the octagon and I do my job. You can be the biggest asshole in the world, you can be the nicest guy in the world, I’m going out there to kill you — and I hope you’re doing the same to me, because otherwise, it’s not going to be a good night for you.”

Adesanya responded, “I don’t really give a f*ck where he’s from, but I’ll show him who he is.” Du Plessis replied, “Whatever that means. I’m glad you took up golf because that’s your retirement sport. I can understand you starting playing golf.”

Du Plessis will be making his first title defense after winning a split decision over Strickland at UFC 297 in January.
