Mark Cuban Says NBA Players Shouldn't Be In The Olympics

Mark Cuban, the former owner of the Dallas Mavericks, believes NBA players should not participate in the Olympics. He has often said that the Olympics are more about business than sports.

Recently, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has been criticized for its strict copyright rules, which led to some clips being removed from the Internet. Elon Musk called out the IOC for this, and Cuban agreed, saying the IOC is all about money.

Cuban argues that the NBA is "subsidizing" the U.S. Olympic Committee and the IOC by letting NBA players participate. He worries that these players might get injured during the games.

Cuban pointed out that in 2012, Dwyane Wade faced backlash for suggesting that Olympic players should be paid. Cuban thinks the Olympics should follow the soccer rule where most players are under 23, with a few exceptions. He also believes professional players should not be allowed in the Olympic basketball competition.

While Cuban supported NBA players joining the 1992 Olympics, he thinks the rule should have changed 20 years ago. He shared these thoughts during an interview with Carmelo Anthony at the Tokyo Games in 2021. Cuban loves the Olympics but is concerned about the short break NBA players get between seasons and the tournament.

For the 2024 Olympics, the Mavericks have fewer players participating. Luka Doncic, who played for Slovenia, did not qualify for the Paris Games. This gives him more time to rest for the next NBA season. Dwight Powell is the only Maverick in the competition, playing for Canada. Another Maverick, Dante Exum, might play for Australia but is recovering from a finger injury.

But I made him hit me because I knew he didn’t like wrestling. My plan was to tire him out by standing with him, then take him to the ground and finish the fight.” Photo: Khabib Nurmagomedov / Instagram Khabib ended the fight with a triangle choke submission. He explained he chose the move out of respect for Gaethje’s parents, who were watching. “I didn’t want to break his arm in front of his parents,” Khabib said. “So I put him to sleep instead.
