Sha'Carri Richardson Saves Team USA, Earns Praise From NFL Legend

Sha'Carri Richardson made headlines after leading Team USA to a thrilling victory in the 4x100m relay. Just days after winning silver in the 100m race, Richardson pulled off a stunning performance in the relay’s final leg, helping the USA women’s team win with a time of 41.78 seconds. They narrowly beat Britain by just 0.07 seconds.

Richardson’s heroics caught the attention of NFL legend Shannon Sharpe, who praised her on his podcast, *Nightcap*. "Sha'Carri did exactly what she was supposed to do," Sharpe said, commending her for overtaking multiple competitors to secure the win. Sharpe noted that even though the team was in a tough spot when Richardson got the baton, she closed the gap with ease.

Sharpe also highlighted the absence of Jamaica, which made the competition less intense. The Jamaican team had defeated the USA in the Tokyo Olympics, but this time, Richardson’s determination made all the difference. Sharpe couldn’t help but laugh at Richardson's confident look as she crossed the finish line, saying, "If you look at her, you’d think, ‘Bye girl, stop playing.’"

Richardson’s efforts were crucial not just in the final but also in the qualifying round, where she helped the team recover from a near-bad baton exchange. Despite the challenges, Richardson closed the gap and led her team to victory.

Meanwhile, the USA men’s relay team faced disappointment. Without star sprinter Noah Lyles, who was out with COVID-19, the men struggled with a botched baton exchange and finished seventh. The team was later disqualified for an illegal baton handoff, marking yet another setback in the event for the USA men’s relay team, which hasn’t won gold since 2000.

NFL legend Carl Lewis expressed his frustration on social media, calling for changes in the USA’s relay program. Despite the men’s struggles, Richardson’s incredible performance remains a bright spot for Team USA.
