Anthony Joshua's Trainer Explains What Went Wrong Against Daniel Dubois

Anthony Joshua's trainer, Ben Davison, has shared how their game plan failed in Joshua’s defeat against Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday night. Joshua, 34, tried to take control early, but Dubois, 27, dominated from the start.

Dubois overwhelmed Joshua with a powerful attack, leading to Joshua being counted out after an intense exchange. This loss marked the fourth defeat in Joshua’s career, taking away his chance to become the undisputed world champion.

Joshua started working with Davison in December, hoping to turn things around. Davison has trained some of the top boxers, including Tyson Fury. However, their plan against Dubois didn’t work out.

“We wanted to take advantage of Dubois stepping back when he jabbed, but things didn’t go as planned,” Davison said after the fight. “We couldn’t get into our rhythm early.”

Joshua had some success in the fifth round, but Dubois quickly responded, ending the fight shortly after. Davison admitted that by the time Joshua started landing some punches, it was too late.

After the fight, Joshua said his career wasn’t over. “We tried for success and missed. But I’m not giving up. I’m a warrior, and I’ll fight again.”

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, hinted at a possible rematch. “Yesterday, people said he was in great form, but this is heavyweight boxing. It was a tough fight, and you have to give Dubois credit,” Hearn said.

Despite the tough loss, Davison praised Joshua for his courage, saying, “He gave it his all. We’re just very disappointed with the result.”
