Former NBA MVP Derrick Rose has announced his retirement after a 16-year career. The 35-year-old shared his decision on social media, saying he is ready to focus on his family now.

“I gave everything I had to basketball,” Rose said. “Now, it's time to give that same effort to my family.”

Rose was a star from the start, joining the NBA as the first pick in the 2008 draft by his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls. He quickly made a name for himself with his exciting play and won the Rookie of the Year award.

In 2011, Rose became the youngest MVP in NBA history at just 22 years old. That season, he led the Bulls to a league-best record and helped them reach the Eastern Conference finals.

Sadly, Rose's career took a major hit in 2012 when he tore his ACL during the playoffs. He missed the following season and struggled with injuries for much of his career. Rose played for several teams after his time with the Bulls, including the Knicks, Cavaliers, Timberwolves, Pistons, and Grizzlies.

In total, Rose played 723 NBA games, finishing with an average of 17.4 points and 5.2 assists per game. Though injuries slowed him down, Rose's impact on the game will always be remembered.

He explained he chose the move out of respect for Gaethje’s parents, who were watching. “I didn’t want to break his arm in front of his parents,” Khabib said. “So I put him to sleep instead.
