Magic Johnson Thinks Bronny James Isn’t Ready For The NBA

Magic Johnson, a Hall of Famer and former Lakers star, shared his thoughts on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" about Bronny James, the son of LeBron James. Johnson, who has won five NBA championships and is worth over a billion dollars, is known for being honest about basketball.

Johnson expressed concern about the Lakers’ choice to draft Bronny with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. He believes Bronny, who played backup point guard at USC, needs more experience before joining the NBA.

“If I'm Bronny, I would tell my dad to let me play in the G League all season to develop,” Johnson said. He explained that Bronny needs playing time and doesn’t benefit from sitting on the Lakers' bench. Johnson believes Bronny has talent but needs to work on his skills further before he’s ready to play significant minutes in the NBA.

Bronny had a tough start to his college career, averaging just 4.8 points per game with poor shooting numbers after missing the beginning of the season due to a cardiac arrest.

Lakers’ first-year coach JJ Redick plans to have Bronny play mainly with the South Bay Lakers, the team’s G League affiliate. However, fans can look forward to seeing Bronny and LeBron play together early in the season, making them the first father-son duo to play on the same NBA court.
