Samuel L. Jackson Surprised By How Fast Marvel Fulfilled His Nine-Movie Deal

Samuel L. Jackson didn't expect Marvel to complete his nine-film contract so quickly. In a recent interview, the actor, who plays Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), shared his thoughts on the process. Jackson first appeared as Fury in 2008’s Iron Man and went on to star in eight more Marvel films within a decade.

"I had a nine-picture deal," Jackson explained. "I didn’t know they were going to make nine movies in two and a half years! It’s kind of crazy!"

Even though his original contract ended with 2019’s Captain Marvel, Jackson hasn’t stopped playing Fury. He has since appeared in movies like Spider-Man: Far from Home and The Marvels. He even headlined his own series, Secret Invasion.

In a 2019 interview, Jackson said he’s happy to keep playing Nick Fury into his 80s. He also mentioned he prefers being in blockbuster films like Marvel’s, rather than chasing after roles that might win him an Oscar.

"My success isn’t about awards," Jackson said. "It’s about being happy with what I’m doing. I’d rather be Nick Fury or Mace Windu with a lightsaber!"
