Miami Heat Unveil Dwyane Wade Statue, But Fans Aren't Happy With The Likeness

The Miami Heat honored their legend Dwyane Wade on Sunday by unveiling a statue outside the Kaseya Center. This tribute celebrates one of the team’s biggest stars, capturing a memorable moment from his career. The statue shows Wade during his iconic “This is my house!” celebration after a game-winning shot against the Chicago Bulls in 2009.

But not everyone is thrilled. Fans quickly noticed the statue doesn’t look much like Wade. This reaction reminds many of the infamous Cristiano Ronaldo bust in Portugal that sparked a lot of criticism for looking more like a cartoon than the soccer star. After the backlash, Ronaldo’s statue was eventually replaced with a better version.

Even a recent State Farm commercial poked fun at this trend, with former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick surprised by a statue that looks nothing like him.

So far, Wade hasn’t commented on whether he’s happy with the statue, and he’s not likely to criticize it. But fans hope the Hall of Famer might eventually get a statue that looks more like him.


Regardless, Wade’s legacy with the Heat is secure. Over 16 seasons, he led the team to three championships, earned 13 All-Star titles, and was recently inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. His jersey was retired in 2020, cementing his place in Heat history. Now, fans just want a statue that reflects the player they remember. Source: Yahoo Sports
