Robert Downey Jr. Draws A Line Against Hollywood Using His Likeness With AI

Robert Downey Jr. recently made it clear that he will not let Hollywood use artificial intelligence (AI) to create a digital version of him. In a conversation on the “On With Kara Swisher” podcast, he firmly stated that he would "sue all future executives" who try to make a digital replica of him. Downey, known for playing Iron Man in the Marvel movies, doesn’t want his image used on screen by AI or deepfake technology.

The topic came up when talking about his time as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, Downey feels confident that Marvel wouldn’t recreate his character using AI. "I am not worried about them hijacking my character’s soul," he said, adding that the key Marvel decision-makers would respect his wishes.

When Swisher pointed out that future Hollywood executives might still want to use his likeness digitally, Downey said he would still take action, joking, "I intend to sue all future executives just on spec." Swisher noted that he wouldn’t be alive when this might happen, to which Downey replied, “But my law firm will still be very active.”

Downey is also exploring AI themes in a Broadway play called “McNeal,” where he confronts corporate figures in the AI world. He expressed his dislike for AI leaders who think they control this new technology, calling it a “massive error” and saying it turns him off from engaging with them.

In terms of Marvel, Downey is gearing up for a return, but not as Tony Stark. Instead, he’s set to play the villain Doctor Doom in the upcoming 2026 film “Avengers: Doomsday.” Source: Variety
