Music mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs has had legal issues in the past, including an assault on music executive Steve Stoute, which took place years before his current legal battles.
The incident happened in 1999 during the making of the music video for Nas’s song, Hate Me Now. In the video, Diddy was shown wearing a crown of thorns and posed like he was on a cross. Though he initially approved the final version, Diddy changed his mind just before its release. Sony had already spent $14,000 on the scene, and they refused to remove it.
Diddy and two associates later went to Stoute’s office to confront him. Stoute described the violent attack to the Los Angeles Times, saying, "One minute I’m in the middle of a meeting, and the next minute I’m down on the floor, and Puffy and his guys are kicking and pounding me."

He recalled being left on the floor, bleeding and in pain. “It was a traumatic experience,” Stoute said, adding that he felt scared and angry. “The only reason I’m not dead is because they missed.”
Following the attack, Diddy was arrested on felony charges, which could have led to up to seven years in prison. Stoute warned that if this behavior went unpunished, it would send a dangerous message. He said it could lead to more criminals taking advantage of the music industry.
Currently, Diddy is facing a federal trial in May 2025 for charges related to sex trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution. He was arrested in September and is being held in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. Diddy has denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty in court. Source
