LeBron James Always Dreamed of Playing With Bronny In The NBA

LeBron James has been planning to share the court with his son, Bronny, for years. Back in December 2020, the Los Angeles Lakers star hinted at the possibility during a media interview.

LeBron, known as "King James," revealed how his career plans could align with Bronny's basketball journey. At the time, Bronny was 16 and on track to graduate high school in 2023.

"The year I'll be a free agent will be the same year my oldest son graduates high school," LeBron said. "So I'll have some options: spending more time with my family, being around my son, or continuing to play the game I love. We'll see."

LeBron's comments suggested he was thinking about the end of his career and how it could connect to Bronny’s start. In December 2020, LeBron signed a two-year contract extension with the Lakers. This deal meant he would be a free agent after the 2022-23 season, just as Bronny graduated high school.

Bronny later committed to playing college basketball with the USC Trojans for the 2023-24 season. Meanwhile, LeBron signed another two-year deal with the Lakers in 2022, keeping the dream alive.

Fast forward to 2024, and the dream became a reality. In the 2024 NBA Draft, Bronny was picked 55th overall by the Lakers. Shortly after, LeBron extended his contract with the team for two more years.

In the early 2024-25 season, during a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron and Bronny made history as the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game—and on the same team.

LeBron had spoken about this dream as far back as 2018. "If I'm on the same court as my son in the NBA, that would be my greatest achievement," he said then.

While Bronny is officially a Laker, he is currently recovering from an injury and has been assigned to the team's G-League affiliate. For now, he won’t travel with the team for away games but will stay close to his father and the Lakers during those times.

Even with these challenges, the James family has achieved something incredible, fulfilling a dream years in the making. Source
