Why Does Travis Kelce’s Helmet Look Different?

Travis Kelce, one of the best tight ends in NFL history, is known for his incredible performances with the Kansas City Chiefs. Over 12 seasons, Kelce has been a key player, helping the team win three Super Bowls and setting numerous personal records. At 35 years old, he continues to dominate, playing all 12 games in the 2024 season so far.

Kelce’s position as a tight end is tough. He needs to block, catch passes, and sometimes run the ball, making protection critical. That’s why his helmet stands out—it’s built to provide extra safety and durability.

For most of his career, Kelce wore a Schutt Air XP helmet. In 2021, he switched to the Schutt F7 and hasn’t looked back. The F7 is rated one of the best helmets in football, earning a perfect 5/5 on the Virginia Tech Helmet Rating scale.

The helmet is lightweight and features special “Tektonic Plates” on top. These plates move independently to reduce the impact of hits and absorb rotational forces. It also has five panels that can be swapped out if they break or need adjustments.

In 2024, Kelce upgraded to the Schutt F7 UR1. He pairs it with an F7-EGOP-VI facemask and a Riddell hardcup chinstrap. In 2023, he used a different facemask style, the F7-EGOP-III.

Kelce’s helmet doesn’t just offer protection—it also grabs attention because of its unique look. Some fans think the jagged bar design and tilt make it look strange.
