A historic piece of rock history is heading to auction this week — Eric Clapton and George Harrison’s 1913 Gibson “Pattie” acoustic guitar.
The guitar, a rare Style-0 archtop, is listed by Heritage Auctions with an opening bid of $150,000. Just months ago, it appeared on Reverb for nearly $1 million.
The instrument was used by Harrison and Clapton during their creative peak in 1968, when they reportedly wrote songs like Here Comes the Sun, I Me Mine, and Layla.
Named after Pattie Boyd, the woman both musicians married, “Pattie” became a symbol of their friendship and musical bond.
Photos show Harrison playing the guitar in Los Angeles in 1968 alongside Clapton.
Clapton later gave the guitar to Delaney Bramlett around 1970, who helped both musicians in their solo careers.
Now, more than 100 years old, the guitar remains in good shape and stands as a true icon of 1960s rock history.
