Damian Lillard Wants 2-Year Extension That Could Affect Blazers GM Search

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN wrote an in-depth report that discussed the Portland Trail Blazers' search for a general manager and Damian Lillard's future with the team.

In addition, Wojnarowski shared that Lillard is aiming for a massive contract extension this summer.

In July, Lillard wants a $107 million two-year extension, but his agent needs the next general manager to sell ownership on the idea.

The top GM candidates who fit Portland's profile are not enthusiastic about extending Lillard's contract beyond 2026-27.

According to Wojnarowski, several executives told ESPN they would be far more interested in the Blazers job if ownership approved the move sooner rather than later.

Adding the extension to his current contract, which runs through 2024-25, would pay him up to $55.3 million in 2027.

Wojnarowski wrote that Lillard would be 36 at that point and would be well into his twilight years.

The belief that Lillard's representatives had input on the next general manager had faded quickly, Wojnarowski added.
