Yankees' Loáisiga Out For The Rest of '24 Season Due To Injury

Jonathan Loáisiga's season with the Yankees has been cut short due to injury. The right-hander, expected to play a significant role in the bullpen, will miss the remainder of the 2024 season.

Loáisiga revealed on Saturday that he has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament, requiring season-ending surgery. Additionally, he sustained a right flexor strain during his recent appearance against the Diamondbacks.

Expressing frustration, Loáisiga stated, "It's a tough moment to deal with. At the same time, there's a will inside. I want to be out there pitching."

The 29-year-old will undergo surgery with Dr. Keith Meister in Texas. While the recovery period is estimated at 10-12 months, there's optimism that he may avoid his second Tommy John surgery.

Loáisiga's injury history has been a concern for the Yankees, who managed his workload cautiously this spring. Despite his promising start to the season, with no runs allowed in four innings, one pitch changed everything.

In his absence, manager Aaron Boone plans to rely on Ian Hamilton and Dennis Santana to fill the void in the bullpen.

With this setback, Loáisiga's future with the Yankees remains uncertain, as he's in the final year of his contract. However, his focus remains on recovery, stating, "My mind is [on] what I need to do next -- go see the doctor, go through this and find my way through recovery and getting back here."
