Limp Bizkit bassist, backing vocalist, and co-founding member Sam Rivers has died at the age of 48.
The band announced his passing on Instagram, calling him “a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human” and “a true legend of legends.” A cause of death was not shared.
In their statement, bandmates Fred Durst, Wes Borland, John Otto, and DJ Lethal said Rivers was “the pulse beneath every song” and that his “spirit will live forever.”
Born on September 2, 1977, in Jacksonville, Florida, Rivers met Durst there and helped form Limp Bizkit in the mid-1990s.
He played on all six of the band’s albums and briefly left the group after battling liver disease, later returning following a liver transplant.
Rivers also worked as a producer for several local bands and collaborated with artists like Marilyn Manson, David Draiman, and Black Light Burns.
Limp Bizkit said they will “carry him with them always,” honoring the bassist whose music and heart touched millions.
