PETA has asked Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant to temporarily change his name to “Robert Plant Wool” to mark November as Plant Wool Month.
The campaign aims to raise awareness for plant-based alternatives to sheep’s wool.
In a letter to the rock legend, PETA said the move would help promote eco-friendly yarns made from hemp, cotton, and orange waste.
The group said it wants people to turn away from the wool and cashmere industries, which it claims harm animals and the planet.
PETA’s Elisa Allen said the campaign celebrates animal-free and plastic-free yarns that support sustainable fashion.
The group also pointed out that sheep farming produces methane and uses chemicals that hurt the environment.
Plant Wool Month also honors farmers and designers who create clothes from plant materials.
Robert Plant has not yet responded, as he continues his US tour for his new album Saving Grace, which ends in Los Angeles on October 22.
