Zakk Wylde has opened up for the first time about the loss of his friend and mentor, Ozzy Osbourne.
In a new interview with the Los Angeles Times, the longtime guitarist spoke about Ozzy’s strength, humor, and “heart of gold.”
Wylde, who first joined Ozzy’s band in 1987, said he always admired the singer’s will to keep going no matter what life threw at him.
“Even down to the last show, he willed himself to do it,” Wylde shared.
He recalled how Ozzy’s humor kept everyone laughing, saying they could barely get any work done because of it.
Wylde also remembered how Ozzy cared deeply about people, calling him “super giving” and “tough as nails.”
Looking back on Ozzy’s final show, Wylde said the metal icon refused to quit despite his health struggles.
He ended by saying he hopes fans remember Ozzy for his strength and kindness: “He had a heart of gold, man — the best there ever was.”
