Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell praised Soundgarden in a new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame interview, saying he does not think the band ever wrote a bad song.

Cantrell called the band “undefinable” and struggled to pick just three songs that define them, mentioning hits like “Hunted Down,” “Rusty Cage,” and “Black Hole Sun.”

He singled out “The Day I Tried To Live” as a song that still gives him chills.

Cantrell also spoke about his close friendship with Soundgarden and other Seattle bands from the grunge era, saying their music and community still matter to him today.

Soundgarden was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on November 8 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Actor Jim Carrey presented the induction, and surviving members performed with special guests including Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Taylor Momsen, Brandi Carlile, and Cantrell himself.

Cornell’s daughter Toni joined Nancy Wilson for an acoustic tribute to “Fell On Black Days,” while members Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron, Ben Shepherd, and Hiro Yamamoto gave speeches.

The band was first nominated in 2020 and 2023, finishing sixth in the fan vote this year with 233,205 votes.
