EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike Williams said the support he got after his 2016 liver-transplant surgery made him “appreciate being alive more.”
In a new four-hour interview on the Turned Out A Punk podcast, Williams spoke about his past battles with heroin addiction, poverty, jail time, and depression.
He said that after nearly dying from liver failure, he realized how many people truly cared for him.
“All the support I got, people saying, ‘Please don’t die,’ I felt that. It was touching,” he shared.
The surgery inspired him to stay sober and focus on living better, though he admits he still drinks occasionally while on tour.
Williams also said his outlook on life has changed and that he no longer wants to live like a “nihilist.”
After recovering, EYEHATEGOD toured for three years until the pandemic hit in 2020.
The band later released A History Of Nomadic Behavior in 2021 through Century Media Records.
