Slipknot’s “Snuff” started as a heartbreak song from frontman Corey Taylor but became one of metal’s most loved ballads.
Corey wrote it after his first marriage ended, saying, “I get into arguments with fans all the time about this.
Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, it’s just a leftover Stone Sour song.’ No, I wrote that for Slipknot.”

The song’s softer tone shocked fans when it appeared on All Hope Is Gone in 2008.
Many called it a sellout move, but drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray pushed for it to be recorded.
When released as a single in 2009, it reached number six on the US rock charts and gained millions of views on YouTube.
After Paul’s death in 2010, “Snuff” took on deeper meaning as a tribute to him.
Corey often performs it live in his honor, calling it one of Slipknot’s most emotional songs.
Today, “Snuff” stands as proof that even the heaviest bands can show a softer side.
