A rare guitar played by METALLICA’s Kirk Hammett at BLACK SABBATH’s “Back To The Beginning” concert in Birmingham sold for $76,800 at auction.
The custom Gibson CEO4 guitar, signed by Hammett, was expected to sell for only $6,000.
Hammett used the guitar to play BLACK SABBATH’s “Hole In The Sky” during the show.
The instrument features a mahogany neck, ebony fretboard, flame maple top, and a custom DES guitar strap with strap locks.
The sale included a hard case and a backstage pass signed by Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian.
The guitar was part of Julien’s Auctions’ “Played, Worn & Torn” event, which offered over 800 music-related items.
Hammett said he hopes collectors will play the guitars rather than let them sit unused.
Besides METALLICA, Hammett is a founding member of EXODUS and has released solo music, including his 2022 instrumental EP, “Portals.”
