Mike Williams Says Liver Transplant Made Him Value Life More

Photo: Mike Williams / Instagram   EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike Williams said the support he got after his 2016 liver-transplant surgery made him “appreciate being alive more.”  In a new four-hour interview on the Turned Out A Punk  podcast, Williams spoke about his past battles with heroin addiction, poverty, jail time, and depression.  He said that after nearly dying from liver failure, he realized how many people truly cared for him.  Photo: Mike Williams / Instagram “All the support I got, people saying, ‘Please don’t die,’ I felt that. Linkin Park Joins Transformers With Hit Songs

Photo: Linkin Park / Instagram   Linkin Park became part of the Transformers movie franchise with one of their biggest songs, What I've Done .  In 2007, the band was changing their sound for their third album, Minutes to Midnight , moving away from the style that made them famous.  The song was the last one they wrote for the album and was made under pressure, but it came together quickly. Photo: Linkin Park / Instagram Michael Bay, director of Transformers , invited them to be part of the soundtrack, and some band members realized it was a huge opportunity.  The track was used in the movie’s finale, accompanying Optimus Prime’s speech, and matched the film’s emotional tone.  Two years later, the band made New Divide  for the second film under tight deadlines, working closely with the movie’s composer.  For the third film, Iridescent  from their 2010 album A Thousand Suns  was included, chosen because fans loved it live.  The collaborati...

Warner Music Strikes Deal With AI Song Maker Suno

Photo: Chris Martin / Instagram   Warner Music has signed a new deal with AI song generator Suno after settling a major copyright lawsuit filed last year.  The music giant, home to artists like Coldplay, Charli XCX, and Ed Sheeran, is the first major label to partner with Suno.  The deal will let users create AI-generated songs using the voices and likenesses of Warner artists who choose to take part.  Photo: Charli XCX, Ed Sheeran / Instagram   Warner CEO Robert Kyncl said the move shows that AI can be “pro-artist” when done the right way.  As part of the deal, Suno will launch new licensed models next year and limit free downloads.  Only paid users will be able to download songs, with new caps and higher fees.  The move aims to stop the flood of AI-made tracks on streaming platforms.  The deal follows Warner’s recent settlement and partnership with rival AI service Udio. Juan Alderete Urges Young Bassists To Explore New Sounds

Photo: Juan Alderete / Instagram   Juan Alderete, known for his work with The Mars Volta and Racer X, says young bass players should use pedals to expand their sound if they want to get more gigs.  “Not everyone can be in Foo Fighters,” he joked, stressing that effects can turn a simple bass into “an entirely different animal.”  Alderete has spent decades collecting and studying pedals, building a studio filled with over 400 of them.  Photo: Juan Alderete / Instagram His love for effects led to his website, pedalsandeffects.com , and his hunt for rare gear in pawnshops across the country.  The 62-year-old has played with acts from Deltron 3030 to Dr. Octagon and still pushes the limits of the bass on every project.  With his band Halo Orbit, he crafted distorted and spacey tones that showcase his mastery of effects.  Alderete’s top pedal picks include the Boss CS-2 compressor, OC-2 octave, and EarthQuaker Devices Hoof Reaper.  For him, experimenti...

Slipknot’s “Snuff” Became Metal’s Most Emotional Song

Photo: Corey Taylor / Instagram   Slipknot’s “Snuff” started as a heartbreak song from frontman Corey Taylor but became one of metal’s most loved ballads.  Corey wrote it after his first marriage ended, saying, “I get into arguments with fans all the time about this.  Everybody’s like, ‘Oh, it’s just a leftover Stone Sour song.’ No, I wrote that for Slipknot.” Photo: Corey Taylor / Instagram The song’s softer tone shocked fans when it appeared on All Hope Is Gone  in 2008.  Many called it a sellout move, but drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray pushed for it to be recorded.  When released as a single in 2009, it reached number six on the US rock charts and gained millions of views on YouTube.  After Paul’s death in 2010, “Snuff” took on deeper meaning as a tribute to him.  Corey often performs it live in his honor, calling it one of Slipknot’s most emotional songs.  Today, “Snuff” stands as proof that even the heaviest bands can show a...
